Defendant blames meth use for shooting

Yet another meth addict who claims that being high on meth caused him to take the life of another.

A man accused of fatally shooting Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuels almost three years ago told jurors that he did it but that he was high on methamphetamine at the time.

Scott Cheever, testifying in his own defense in his capital murder trial, told a hushed courtroom the details of the shooting that occurred when Samuels tried to serve arrest warrants. Cheever’s defense aims to show that meth so clouded his mind that he couldn’t have premeditated the killing, a requirement in a capital murder case. If it works, Cheever would face a maximum of life in prison.

If this turns out anything like the Lucifer’s baby trial; he might want to make himself at home there in prison
