Should Crystal Meth be Legal? Not just no – but, HELL No.

There is actually a petition online saying crystal meth should be legalized. Granted there are all kinds of ridiculous petition’s online, but this one really irks me.

Here is the petition text along with my two cents:

There’s no rational reason to why people hate meth. If you hate it, you prolly have been brainwashed by the government controlled massmedia. There’s a conspiracy behind that, sometimes I see their black copters and narcs trying to find out…
ANYWAY

There is no reason for people to hate meth? Hmm I guess I was brainwashed by the government when meth addiction destroyed my family life, took our home, jobs, friends, family – everything.

Black copters eh? Sounds like someone has been up a few too many days. When you peel back the tin foil on your windows do you also see UFO’s?

1st) Meth is not toxic, compared to alcohol.
Contrary to popular belief it isn’t a mix of lye and battery acid (those 2 chemicals cancels each other out anyway, LOLZ). It’s just a energized version of cough medication. It’s also prescribed to kids as young as 3yrs old for ADD. Would they give lye+acid+crap to OUR CHILDREN!? No! It’s just that meth is pure as CRYSTAL, lol.

LOLZ!!! OMG LMAO WTF? – Dude, meth’s toxicity is beyond your comprehension at this point; you see, when you are using it your sick mind thinks “It’s OK, it won’t hurt me”. Compared to meth, alcohol is kool-aid. I’m not minimizing alcohol addiction either, but the effects of meth on the brain are far more reaching and long lasting.

Coming from a person who says LOLZ – I have a hard time believing you know anything about how meth is made. Copying and pasting from forums doesn’t count either.

Kids with ADD have been given methylphenidate which alot of people may know as Ritalin. Personally, I would not gve this to my child, but to be fair, I don’t have a child with ADD. The FDA has approved thousands of medications which have been proven to have harmful and addictive side effects. So to answer your question, Yes, “they” would allow children to take this if they thought the benefit outweighed the risks in helping a child with a debilitating disorder. Note however that the government has labeled methylphenidate a Schedule II controlled substance, meaning it is highly addictive.

2nd) Meth is natural for the brain, a supplement.
It’s a cousin of adrenalin, just longer lasting and feel better. It’s a relief from the condition called “sleep”, it makes you productive, fun, etc. It also stimulate your brain cells, making you smarter and able to process more data.
For example I can build a microwave out of recuperated random electronic parts!!!!!

Meth is NOT natural. Natural, by definition would mean it were already manufactured by the brain. Meth is a chemical that causes the brain to release dopamine in mass quantities. And while dopamine is loosely related to adrenaline, the damage done inside the brain with continued meth use can leave a user feeling ultra depressed and hopeless – why? Because the receptors inside the brain become desensitized and no longer react to a normal dose of dopamine. This causes a vicious cycle of addiction.

3rd) Tweakers are nice: Don’t be disrespectin’ us.
I’m not anti-social. Actually I’m very talkative and I can have a long conversation with anyone. I can also explain you how the universe works or how to fix society. Nice huh?
People who give a bad image to meth should not be able to buy this beautiful crystal again.

I have no doubts that tweekers are nice. I know alot of them and they are good, nice people. Addiction happens to “nice people” all day, every day.

I’m tired of those pigs following me around. This is harassment. You’re against harassment, RIGHT!? Join the Beautiful Crystal Cause. Thank you.

NOTE: I’m not condoning the use of illegal substance, nor do I use them. I just want the good for society: legal OTC meth and govt approved meth kits.

This petition is condoning the use of meth which is an illegal substance. If you want what’s good for society it wouldn’t be making meth legal, that’s for sure. Or maybe you want your friends and family walking around like zombies on meth – ganking your stuff for a fix.

      I think it's pretty obvious that this person is not quite all there when making their arguments (the "copter" comment should be enough). I do think that there are arguments for the legalization of many drugs, including the fact that inflated drug prices, drug impurities, and drug-dealing-related violence are some of the most costly aspects of addiction in society.
      However, I would not argue that meth is not toxic (though it's relative toxicity to alcohol can be debated at length as they harm different parts of the body), nor that it is natural.
      I'll give you this though: The tweaker who stayed up late on his 4th night up to put together that petition is resourceful, even if they need a little more schooling on matters of vocabulary ;-)

    • Lest ye forget the amount of people in prison on drug charges and nothing more. I am not sure what the answer is, but legalizing something as destructive as meth would do society no good. Do you think people could use meth like alcohol in moderation? Most people that drink alcohol, do so responsibly I would assume - but meth is a whole different beast. I've not met one person who has stated they used meth recreationally who didn't turn to a zombie within months. With all of that said however, I do think something needs to be done about the amount of people in prison due to a drug addiction.

    • I have a very hard time believing that petition is not written in jest, by some smartass who wants to get a rise out of others. In fact, reading between the lines, I get a sense he or she is making fun at meth heads who think they get some beneficial attribute from the drug.       As to the argument about meth being anything close to "natural," as a former user I can attest to the fact that the taste and smell of it demonstrate otherwise. Even tweaked out, I would ask myself, "WHy in the hell are you putting this poison in your body?" It seemed ludicrous even at the time.

      I am so glad I somehow have overcome this nightmare that is tina. And I can still rub my two brain cells together and come out ok, and even hold a great job, stay in a committed partnership, and find new non-drug-related interests.

    • I got sucked into doing meth when i was 21 and continued to get high for about a year and a half after until i picked up a criminal case for stealing, me and my wife split up, i lost my job and i was living in my car for 3 months prior to my arrest.. In my opinion, meth does make you way sharper, way more focused, super confident, witty, but..... those benefits are extremely short lived and once you realize your not getting the benefits, you find yourself with the worst addiction ever... i wish i never tried it. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can try it once. you will regret that for the rest of your life.

      OH MY GOD!!! This petition to legalize meth is pure insanity! I have been a meth addict for about 2 1/2 yrs and am convinced the first rock was belched from the pits of hell by satan himself. Anyone who would suggest making this poison available to the public in mass quantities must be out of their mind! Legalizing meth couldn't be anything less than a complete disaster for everyone in the country. It has run rampant across America leaving children without parents, husbands without wives, wives without husbands, and parents without children. Meth appears harmless at first but before you realize it, it's got it's hooks in you. Myself and countless others struggle daily with the powerful force of this drug and many others fall victim to it.

      I'm not the dirty greasy tweaker you see (or imagine) geeking around, I'm an intelligent, educated tweaker that wishes they could go back to that first piece of foil and say not on your life but it's too late for that. So I struggle to control my addiction. Some weeks I don't use at all but some weeks I use every day. I've shot dope into my veins everyday for the last 7 days before that it had been 3 weeks since I used. You never can tell about it. It's too unpredictible to be legal.

      Drug legalisation is an important issue since the disire for drugs is an very human drive. I believe legalisation causes more problems than it solves as it makes criminals out of people who have a serious health problem. Drug issues should be delt with by doctors not by policemen. Unless of course a persons drug use is harming others. People should be given the right over their own body to fuck it up if they so please. Not to mention you have spoken about the problems people who seek out this drug how been through, such as the production of it which is needlessly dangourous and a process which should be done by real chemists and not some dick in their backyard. The legalisation of drugs is an important step on our way to a happier world which is free of pushing normal people into a criminal world, and an important steop to get the drugs out of the hands of children, because these days that's who the black market aims at. We need to educate about drugs teach people the dangers and risks involved help people stay safe from halm. And not lock people up for doing no more than seeking to fulfill one of their basic human drives.

      Yee, gads, I sure hope that person was joking. I never used it personally, but watched my boyfriend literally go through a massive downward spiral for five months before being hauled off to jail. It went from something he assumed he could control to a friend murdering some kid in a church parking lot because he was high, had been awake for a week. My boyfriend provided the weapon. Not only did meth turn him into a zombie (awake constantly, never eating, skin and bones, always trying to score more of the drug or make profit off of anything possible), but he turned into a sexual sadist, cheated on me, etc. Yeah, that sounds like something we should legalize!

      I think that it is stupid to try and legalize meth, even though i do it ONCE in a while and it really is an amazing high.. but it doesnt need to be legalized. the person that said meth took their home and broke her family apart- im sorry to hear that, and i hope you don't take this personally but i really believe that meth as well as every other drug is a mental addiction. it is never physical. you can make it physical by telling yourself that you NEED it. but in reality.....no one NEEDS drugs to function. so the people that let any drug ruin their life are dumb because they are the problem...not the drug. if you know you canNOT control yourself why do it??? i know i'm probably pissing alot of people off by saying this... but its my personal opinion....hope you can respect that, and if you cant...I DONT GIVE A FUCK :-)

      I am so glad I stumbled across this blog post. I am horrified at the idea of legalizing meth and anyone who advocates either it's use or it's legalization needs to seek serious help from a mental health professional. Just the scientific facts about what it does to an abuser's brain cells should not only scare the willies out any sane person, but it should also make it apparent that any arguments that come from users of this particularly horrid substance are coming from people of questionable mental stability to begin with (i.e. if you use it you are brain-damaged already). The stories about the damage this substance does to our society at large and how many families have been ripped apart by it and/or people killed from it or over it are legion. To those of you who argue 'personal freedom' about what you put in your body, while I agree with the basic concept of that it is only valid if your behavior does not hurt others. Once it affects anyone else but you, that argument goes right out the window. If I have to even try to convince you of how many innocents have had their lives irrevocably damaged by someone else's abuse of this drug, then you are deliberately TRYING to bury your head in the sand and live in denial.
