Petition to Legalize Crystal Meth

Hey chick,

I think it's pretty obvious that this person is not quite all there when making their arguments (the “copter” comment should be enough). I do think that there are arguments for the legalization of many drugs, including the fact that inflated drug prices, drug impurities, and drug-dealing-related violence are some of the most costly aspects of addiction in society.
However, I would not argue that meth is not toxic (though it's relative toxicity to alcohol can be debated at length as they harm different parts of the body), nor that it is natural.
I'll give you this though: The tweaker who stayed up late on his 4th night up to put together that petition is resourceful, even if they need a little more schooling on matters of vocabulary

Addiction Treatment

I have a very hard time believing that petition is not written in jest, by some smartass who wants to get a rise out of others. In fact, reading between the lines, I get a sense he or she is making fun at meth heads who think they get some beneficial attribute from the drug. Re: the comment “I can also explain you how the universe works or how to fix society. Nice huh?”

As to the argument about meth being anything close to “natural,” as a former user I can attest to the fact that the taste and smell of it demonstrate otherwise. Even tweaked out, I would ask myself, “WHy in the hell are you putting this poison in your body?” It seemed ludicrous even at the time.

I am so glad I somehow have overcome this nightmare that is tina. And I can still rub my two brain cells together and come out ok, and even hold a great job, stay in a committed partnership, and find new non-drug-related interests.

I got sucked into doing meth when i was 21 and continued to get high for about a year and a half after until i picked up a criminal case for stealing, me and my wife split up, i lost my job and i was living in my car for 3 months prior to my arrest.. In my opinion, meth does make you way sharper, way more focused, super confident, witty, but….. those benefits are extremely short lived and once you realize your not getting the benefits, you find yourself with the worst addiction ever… i wish i never tried it. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can try it once. you will regret that for the rest of your life.

OH MY GOD!!! This petition to legalize meth is pure insanity! I have been a meth addict for about 2 1/2 yrs and am convinced the first rock was belched from the pits of hell by satan himself. Anyone who would suggest making this poison available to the public in mass quantities must be out of their mind! Legalizing meth couldn't be anything less than a complete disaster for everyone in the country. It has run rampant across America leaving children without parents, husbands without wives, wives without husbands, and parents without children. Meth appears harmless at first but before you realize it, it's got it's hooks in you. Myself and countless others struggle daily with the powerful force of this drug and many others fall victim to it.

I'm not the dirty greasy tweaker you see (or imagine) geeking around, I'm an intelligent, educated tweaker that wishes they could go back to that first piece of foil and say not on your life but it's too late for that. So I struggle to control my addiction. Some weeks I don't use at all but some weeks I use every day. I've shot dope into my veins everyday for the last 7 days before that it had been 3 weeks since I used. You never can tell about it. It's too unpredictible to be legal.

Drug legalisation is an important issue since the disire for drugs is an very human drive. I believe legalisation causes more problems than it solves as it makes criminals out of people who have a serious health problem. Drug issues should be delt with by doctors not by policemen. Unless of course a persons drug use is harming others. People should be given the right over their own body to fuck it up if they so please. Not to mention you have spoken about the problems people who seek out this drug how been through, such as the production of it which is needlessly dangourous and a process which should be done by real chemists and not some dick in their backyard. The legalisation of drugs is an important step on our way to a happier world which is free of pushing normal people into a criminal world, and an important steop to get the drugs out of the hands of children, because these days that's who the black market aims at. We need to educate about drugs teach people the dangers and risks involved help people stay safe from halm. And not lock people up for doing no more than seeking to fulfill one of their basic human drives.

But maybe not meth legalisation, that is some fucking bad shit. MDMA legalisation for the win.

Yee, gads, I sure hope that person was joking. I never used it personally, but watched my boyfriend literally go through a massive downward spiral for five months before being hauled off to jail. It went from something he assumed he could control to a friend murdering some kid in a church parking lot because he was high, had been awake for a week. My boyfriend provided the weapon. Not only did meth turn him into a zombie (awake constantly, never eating, skin and bones, always trying to score more of the drug or make profit off of anything possible), but he turned into a sexual sadist, cheated on me, etc. Yeah, that sounds like something we should legalize!

I think that it is stupid to try and legalize meth, even though i do it ONCE in a while and it really is an amazing high.. but it doesnt need to be legalized. the person that said meth took their home and broke her family apart- im sorry to hear that, and i hope you don't take this personally but i really believe that meth as well as every other drug is a mental addiction. it is never physical. you can make it physical by telling yourself that you NEED it. but in reality…..no one NEEDS drugs to function. so the people that let any drug ruin their life are dumb because they are the problem…not the drug. if you know you canNOT control yourself why do it??? i know i'm probably pissing alot of people off by saying this… but its my personal opinion….hope you can respect that, and if you cant…I DONT GIVE A FUCK

I am so glad I stumbled across this blog post. I am horrified at the idea of legalizing meth and anyone who advocates either it's use or it's legalization needs to seek serious help from a mental health professional. Just the scientific facts about what it does to an abuser's brain cells should not only scare the willies out any sane person, but it should also make it apparent that any arguments that come from users of this particularly horrid substance are coming from people of questionable mental stability to begin with (i.e. if you use it you are brain-damaged already). The stories about the damage this substance does to our society at large and how many families have been ripped apart by it and/or people killed from it or over it are legion. To those of you who argue 'personal freedom' about what you put in your body, while I agree with the basic concept of that it is only valid if your behavior does not hurt others. Once it affects anyone else but you, that argument goes right out the window. If I have to even try to convince you of how many innocents have had their lives irrevocably damaged by someone else's abuse of this drug, then you are deliberately TRYING to bury your head in the sand and live in denial.

While making meth available OTC to ~anybody~ does seem ridiculous, I must disagree with what you stated here and in some other posts you have made.

I believe that you believe that METH destroys lives. What about our legal friends alcohol and nicotine? I could say that Nicotine almost made me lose my mother when I was 10 years old. Yet it is more correct to say: My mother chose to continue smoking despite her knowledge of its damage to the body rather than to deal with her real problems. However addictive nicotine is–(I am addicted also)–it is still the user's choice to have their next hit. I don't HAVE to buy my next pack, but I do it because I use nicotine as a crutch for my deeper problems. Not because it's addictive and “I can't”.

Drugs don't DO anything. Drugs are just material; cocaine like flour, pills like pebbles. Undifferentiated from other matter and molecules. That is, until they reach the brains of some of this planet's creatures. Their exact effect cannot be predicted or presumed to be the same for everyone, and the type of “high” experienced depends on what is already inside your own mind. Stupid people become stupider when high, creative people–>more creative, smart people–>smarter, funny–>funnier… etc.

I know momma's boy's in their twenties who barely have it together and blame many of their problems on POT… WTF… The government told them “pot demotivates you”, so they believe they are too unmotivated to stop smoking all day and move forward. (Which is a Fucking Easy drug to quit or at least cut back on; if anyone is wondering.) Yet I know other people who's pot smoking I cannot keep up with without being a lumbering sack of uselessness.

Now guess what, have you heard the news about METH? “Try it once and you will never break free… yadda yadda…” So what do you think a gullible, otherwise misinformed user will be led to believe? Not to mention that you usually must be easy to influence, be “Curious”, vulnerable, or just have fucking problems to start doing drugs in the first place. People all over seem to “-just know-” how horrible meth and certain drugs are without having ever taken it themselves. Much of the information presented by the gov't is exaggerated and in some cases completely wrong/outdated. Users should have access to proper information (http://www.erowid.org) AND it would be nice not to have trailer-park kitchen-made impure shit. Thereby reducing many risks/side effects of the drugs consumed. Impurities and additives in street drugs give bad names to the actual substances. Good coke is great, crappy coke will make you feel all paranoid and angry the day after.

I have been snorting amps and meth occasionally on and off for about 5 years. Is it addictive? yes. Did it separate me from previous friends/hobbies? yes. Can I generally be considered a fuckup? Yes, by most people, but most people aren't a reference. Is it because of my mentioned drug use? NO. I've been remarkably different from other children all through my life and usually was the kid who was too nice to everyone and well I had nothing I was a loser. Adding to the fact that I was emotionally abused by my parents and had no “real” friends.

Well, sorry for turning this into my life story but my point is that despite my REASONABLE meth use I still have a full time job where I PWN and am also studying Science at Cegep with good results. Speed helped me build character, the irritability of the comedown helped me establish my boundaries with people rather than being a pushover. It helps me focus when I have to study, or when I compose music as a hobby. It really helps me think outside the box when done in reasonable amounts. Too much is worse than not enough… Speed also helped me mature in a lot of ways in which my functionally-alcoholic parents were of no use. Yet I can manage not to do it all the fucking time despite having a bag of the shit right beside me. I did start going down a spiral once (SPEED, ecstacy, coke, and combinations of) but I got back on track, and now use the drug(s) responsibly.

Drugs aren't for everyone. While I like to smoke pot at night, I had to stop smoking all day, despite knowing a lot of people who have no problems with it. I know tons of people who drink responsibly, yet some can't seem to stop after their first drink. I have friends who do speed and coke and they seem to blame all their problems on the drugs; or conversely who are blind to the side-effects of the drugs due to improper drug education. Other people who limit their use, don't enter ridiculous binges etc.. are most likely doing JUST FINE. Stop blaming drugs. Irresponsible users and laughably inaccurate gov't propaganda are the cause of drug problems.

By Improper drug education, I mean that people start with pot and see that “Its not AT ALL horrible like the gov't said”. So they disregard any other ridiculously exaggerated warnings on the harder drugs.

Booze is the gateway drug. Period the end. Don't throw any blame on marijuana. When I think about it, I can't even count how many people have done meth for their first time ONLY while drunk. Some people who have done it have told me “It makes me feel sober and allows me to consume more booze and I only feel awake and talkative. So I can drink all night long and not get fucked up.” It amazes me, how somebody would want to snort so much of that crap just to drink alcoholic drinks that will have no effect on them. From my point of view, it is like people are using the ability to consume vast amounts of alcoholic drinks as a fashion accessory. They might as well drink a soft drink because you really can drink all night! At the end of the day, besides being able to cheat yourself out of sleep that is about all you can do with street meth. It will allow you to be a redneck superhero and that is about it. This little blogger would prefer sleep as opposed to giving myself brain-damage, which destroys my intelligence to the point that is effects my fun loving personality as well. Just go a coupe of days on the meth and you'll see why rednecks love meth. Why do they love meth so much? Because you can act and look like the super hero of the pub/bar/night club and out-drink everyone else because meth has some un-named affect on the body that doesn't allow alcohol to affect you as much as it normally would.
Then you have the other element of meth. It makes the majority of users feel “honry.” But there is a malfunction with this sensation that affects, it thins out your blood so much that males USUALLY can't not get an erection.
At the end of the day I can clearly see that the person who started the petition to make meth legal make meth legal is a product of their own poison.

They really need to tell the church people who complain about graphic advertisements to eat shit and show the world just how ugly meth is. These lamer-than-lame commercials you see on TV that are anti-meth are so watered to make thew church people and censors happy that the message of avoiding meth just doesn't get it's point across. When a drug like meth is out there rotting everybody away you just can't censor advertisements. The only positive thing I can say about my addiction is that mine are made in a certified lab. That shit is nothing more than heroin cleverly hidden behind a shitload of laws and other corporate disguises. If you think meth is bad. You haven't seen oxycontin withdrawals yet. I now see why they call oxycontin “The Devils Drug”.
