Man tries to trade daughter for Meth?!

I came across a news article from a couple weeks ago stating that a man in Aurora Colorado was caught attempting to sell his 5 year old daughter for 2 oz. of meth. Here is the full article:

AURORA, Colo., Sept. 20 (UPI) — A 5-year-old Arizona girl was returned safely after her stepfather allegedly tried to trade her for 2 ounces of methamphetamine.

The 45-year-old suspect allegedly abducted Jade Dunn and took her to Aurora, Colo., before being caught by local and federal authorities, the Denver Post reported Thursday.

Dunn was returned Wednesday to her mother in Kingman, Ariz., while her stepfather was booked into Arapahoe County’s jail on drug charges. He is to turned over to the FBI and will await extradition to Arizona, Phoenix FBI officials told the Post.

“Child crimes have a very special place in our hearts as children are truly the innocent,” Aurora’s police chief Dan Oates said to the newspaper. “We are more than happy to assist, and we are grateful that our efforts albeit minimal, have assisted in returning a child home.”

The first thing that came to my mind was literally WTF?! I am still shocked at the things people will do out of sheer desperation. As an addict – getting your next high can feel like a life or death situation. Everything you have is fair game in exchange. Guilt caused by decisions made are shrouded behind numbness when you’re high; the cycle continues as you bury the guilt and chase the next hit.
