I'm surprised that snitching to the cops isn't enough for them to get a search warrant. Because here in Australia the cops can get a search warrant on even the flimsiest of suspicions. And America's drug laws are way more draconian than ours. In America they even have drug squads that are entirely funded by the proceeds of their raids, so I would have assumed they'd follow up on even the most dubious of tip offs in the hope of getting their hands on cash and other valuables. I'm surprised they don't use sniffer dogs more, but perhaps they don't have enough to go around seeing as how they're probably used mostly at airports and music festivals.
Anyway prohibition is a failed policy, harm minimisation would be much more effective. However most people have been conditioned to believe that the only way drugs can be fought is by treating it as a criminal justice issue rather than a health issue. And so it saddens me that sensible reforms could still be a long way away. BTW I agree that meth is a terrible substance and I'd rather it wasn't out there at all but the current strategy really isn't working - shut down one meth lab and before long another one takes it's place, not to mention the cartels in Mexico that produce it in massive quantities despite the Mexican government using their army to fight their drug war.

Attorney Greg Abbott of Oregon was contacted by residents of a North Portland neighborhood who wanted help with a challenging issue; specifically they wanted a suspected meth house out of their neighborhood.

the house had actually been labeled a “chronic nuisance” under city code. He decided to file his suit in small claims court against the owner of the home under his name. Since he was unsure if the case would be successful he chose small claims court to limit the financial burden to himself; stating in hindsight: “If I screwed it up there was no point in making it more expensive than it had to be.”
