Strawberry Quick Meth
“Strawberry Quick” Meth or Strawberry Meth
The rumor mill cranked this one out early this year. It started with mass emails being forwarded from one person to another. The email claims this meth is made specifically to target young kids. Logically, why would anyone target a group that generally doesn’t have access to the cash needed to buy the product? I think common sense dictates that it isn’t true and that this type of meth is not targeted directly towards kids. Meth is not created to target any demographic per se. Yes, there is the possibility that older kids/adolescents may find it more appealing visually - but when it boils down to it, it’s the same old crank and if available, there is no discretion as to who buys and ultimately uses it.
“Strawberry Quick” or “Strawberry” meth can range in color from bright pink to a light milky pink and when in rock form, it almost looks like the sugar crystal candy “pop-rocks”. Usually meth made using Sudafed or similar generic equivalents have a pinkish tint because of the dyes used in making the pills. Bright pink meth is usually made using anhydrous ammonia treated with a product called GloTell. Ironically, GloTell is a non-toxic additive made specifically to stop the theft of anhydrous ammonia from farmers for the use of manufacturing meth; It claims to do this by marking the anhydrous ammonia and anything it comes in contact with a bright pink tint. So it really doesn’t matter what’s in it - we aren’t talking about a health food here. Of all the crap that is used to make meth, GloTell is probably the least toxic.
Flavored meth? There have been rumors floating around that strawberry meth is actually scented or flavored. At present the claims remain unsubstantiated by the DEA. Deputy drug czar Scott Burns is quotes as saying:
“I don’t think that’s correct, because the sugar group would break down the methyl group” during cooking, ruining the batch”.
Could Mr. Burns by wrong? People on various forums claim that strawberry meth tastes sweet when smoked as opposed to the bitter taste that “regular” meth has. There are other types of so called flavored meth including a well known type called peanut butter crank.
The jury is still out on this one I guess, because I am sure not about to go test for myself. If there is in fact truth to this, you can rest assured that the person that came up with the idea wasn’t doing it just for kids as the mass email will tell you; Meth dealers don’t have target audiences or key demographics and they sure aren’t about to turn anyone away because they are too old!
