AMC premiered it’s newest controversial series on January 20th called Breaking Bad. The show stars the dad from Malcom in the Middle (Bryan Cranston) as a high school chemistry teacher and terminally ill father that decides he is going to make crystal meth and subsequentially sell it in order to ensure his family will be financially stable after he dies.
I finally got a chance to watch the pilot last night on my DVR. I thought it was a little bit funny, a little bit strange, and a little bit lame. My thoughts going in to watch it were mostly those of curiosity…would they actually show HOW to make meth? Would Walter become a tweeker and would they show the effects of meth? In the pilot they show him being opposed to the use of the meth they make, but at the racy end of the show you really have to wonder if either he snorted some, or if being around it made him high. In regards to showing the steps involved in making meth, I think they did a good job of leaving some things to the imagination while including enough that the average clueless person might think “wow, meth labs are bad…mmmkay”.
All-in-all, I will be watching. It did pique my curiosity. The fact that after watching an hours worth of tweeker zaniness, I am actually interested in watching again says something for the show – I guess.
